Welcome Message
Breast cancer is a complex disease that requires a multidisciplinary yet individualised approach in treatment. The optimal care of patients with breast cancer has evolved tremendously as a result of advances in screening, detection and treatment strategies. Alongside this progress, breast reconstruction has developed rapidly where patients no longer have to endure the loss of a breast or a disfigured chest.

The theme of this inaugural meeting is oncologic management of breast cancer and breast reconstruction. This course is jointly organized by Department of Surgical Oncology, National Cancer Centre Singapore, and Department of Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery, Singapore General Hospital. Locally, breast surgeons and plastic surgeons have been working closely for several years with much success and patient satisfaction. Thus, this is an opportune time for a collaboration between the two specialties.

The programme, through a panel of specialists and a series of succinct talks, aims to provide a comprehensive update on the advances in breast imaging, oncologic surgery, systemic therapy and radiotherapy, as well as, the variety of options for breast reconstructive surgery. Each specialist will provide an insight from his or her perspective to share and discuss.

Participants will also have the opportunity to experiment with ultrasound-guided core needle biopsy on breast models, including the vacuum-assisted large core needle biopsy in the hands-on workshop. Attendees can enjoy trade exhibits of the latest breast implants, post-operative support garments, lipofilling equipment and pharmaceuticals for breast cancer treatment.

We look forward to welcoming you to this meeting, so that you can keep abreast of the advances in breast oncology and reconstructive surgery.
